HARD BRAIN TEASERS

Fun Facts (Hints)

Check out some interesting facts about how brain teasers actually effect our brains:
  • Keeping your brain active is important to keep it functioning well.
  • The practice of mental exercising may also protect against collection of detrimental proteins in the brains of individuals who have Alzheimer's disease.
  • Studies show that vast levels of mental exercise are connected to better brain function throughout a person's lifetime.
  • Significantly for elderly people, partaking in highly complex mental exercises in later life is associated with a lower chance of developing dementia.
  • Solving complex brain riddles and other activities like journal writing are good ways to stimulate your mind daily.

    The Older Twin Brother

    Hint:
It's all because the clocks went back. Samuel Peterson was born on 1.39am on Sunday, November 6. His brother Ronan, meanwhile, was born 31 minutes later, but by then daylight saving hours had ended, and the clock was turned back one hour.

So while Ronan was in a sense born at 2:10 am on November 6, his official time of birth is actually 1:10 am.

    Age Of Three Daughters Riddles

    Hint:
    3, 3, and 8. The only groups of 3 factors of 72 to have non-unique sums are 2 6 6 and 3 3 8 (with a sum of 14). The rest have unique sums:

    2 + 2 + 18 = 22
    2 + 3 + 12 = 18
    2 + 4 + 9 = 15
    3 + 4 + 6 = 13

The house number alone would have identified any of these groups. Since more information was required, we know the sum left the answer unknown. The presence of a single oldest child eliminates 2 6 6, leaving 3 3 8 as the only possible answer.

    Two Solid Metal Pillars

    Hint:
The twig and the rock were simply distractions used to divert you from the real answer. Forget I ever mentioned them. All you need to do is fill the space between you with enough rope that it makes a pile so big that you can walk across it to the other pillar (remember I said you had an unlimited supply of rope).

    Three People In A Room

    Hint:
Simple strategy: Elect one person to be the guesser, the other two pass. The guesser chooses randomly 'green' or 'blue'. This gives them a 50% chance of winning.

Better strategy: If you see two blue or two green hats, then write down the opposite color, otherwise write down 'pass'.

It works like this ('-' means 'pass'):

Hats: GGG, Guess: BBB, Result: Lose
Hats: GGB, Guess: --B, Result: Win
Hats: GBG, Guess: -B-, Result: Win
Hats: GBB, Guess: G--, Result: Win
Hats: BGG, Guess: B--, Result: Win
Hats: BGB, Guess: -G-, Result: Win
Hats: BBG, Guess: --G, Result: Win
Hats: BBB, Guess: GGG, Result: Lose

    Result: 75% chance of winning!

Just to reiterate the hint, if you knock down a single pin, for example at the far left of the back row, then repeat the same identical shot on your second throw, you'll score 0 points for your second throw (because there's no pin there anymore), but it's not a gutter ball as the shot did not enter the gutter.
